Guess Where We Have Been!

Santa Paws

Lake Accotink Park, Springfield

On December 15, 2001, Tiki and Tiger were on hand to welcome Santa Paws to the Northern Virginia area. Santa brought copies of Life Through Tiki's Eyes, With Comments By Tiger in his bag of goodies for all participants. Tiki and Tiger kept in the holiday spirit by autographing their books. Here they are with Tawny Hammond-and of course, Santa-who directed the event!

Tiger and Tiki's book was such a success, Tawney invited the two back for signings at the Spring Fling (March 23, 2002)!

Dateline Reston
6th Annual Holiday Special from the Reston Town Center

On December 6, 2001, Tiger and Tiki co-hosted their 6th Annual Holiday Special on Dateline Reston [ComCast Channel 28] at the Reston Town Center. Lots of adorable canines showed up for pictures with Santa Paws, and a chance at stardom!

Here we are with "our" co-hosts-Marion Myers of Myers Public Relations and Cynthia Warger (our mom-person), and guest Dianne Kapfhammer, owner of Animal Antics. Diane showed her wonderful baskets (learn more about them by visiting our "What's New!" page).

Cameron Glenn
Cameron Glenn Holiday Reading

Tiki and Tiger presented a holiday program for residents at Cameron Glenn Senior Citizen Home on November 28, 2001. Tiki has always wanted to be a therapy dog, so this was her chance to make sure no one went away un-petted! Exceptional Innovations donated more than one hundred books to residents!

Broadlands

The Broadlands in Ashburn, VA

Tiki and Tiger led the pet parade and hosted a book signing at the Broadlands' K-9 Carnival, in Ashburn, VA on September 29, 2001. Lots of canines (and their human companions) visited Tiki and Tiger at their booth.

Connection

Canine Carousel, Herndon

On July 28, 2001, Tiger and Tiki were on hand to sign books at the Canine Carousel (680 Elden Street, Herndon, VA, 703-709-8746). While there, Tiki checked out the fun accessories and stylish clothes for canine companions. She couldn’t make up her mind between a retro-looking “Woof, Woof” collar and a purple sparkle one-so she got both! Tiki and Tiger’s friend Trouble, who gets her hair done at the Canine Carousel, selected the pearls. Canine Carousel's owner, Lil, has years and years of experience grooming dogs. Here we are with her and her too-cute dog Surprise! (Surprise actually runs Canine Carousel, but don’t tell Lil!)

Connection

Herndon Festival K9-2K and Doggie Expo

On June 3, Tiki and Tiger were at the 2001 Herndon Festival K9-2K and Doggie Expo. The day started with a dog walk, followed by a breakfast for humans. Every dog received a goodie bag, complete with a copy of Life Through Tiki’s Eyes, with Comment By Tiger. After breakfast, Tiki and Tiger were on hand at the expo to sign books and meet new friends. This event is part of the annual Herndon, VA Summer Festival. Kudos to Lesley Greene, pictured with us, who organized the event.

Pet Fiesta

Pet Fiesta--A Great Way to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo!

On May 5, 2001, we were the grand marshals-see us lead the parade down Market Street to start the day-of the First Annual Cinco de Mayo Pet Fiesta and Expo in Reston, VA. We also judged the pet competitions, which included best dressed pooch, best trick, and most look-alike animal and human companions.

ComCast
There was a lot to do besides sign books-get brushed by the Fairfax County Voc-Ed Animal Technician class, eat frozen dog ice cream with the Reston Dog Park Coalition (learn more about dog parks from them at www.restondogs.org). We tagged   along with our videographer friend Abraham (see photo of Abraham and us), who always makes sure our best sides are filmed. Highlights of the day aired on Comcast Channel 8. Proceeds benefited the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

Reston Historic Trust

Pet Festival--A Great Time!

Tiki and Tiger hosted the 1st Annual Pet Festival at Historic Lake Anne Plaza in Reston, VA, on March 10, 2001. More than 100 dogs and their human companions came out for the event. In addition to book signings by Tiki and Tiger-shown in the photo with Sarah Larson, Executive Director of the Reston Historic Trust-Tiki and Tiger hosted a pet screen test carried on ComCast Cable Channel. The day included a variety of events, such as cooking demonstrations (liver brownies and healthy biscuits), readings by pet psychic Gena Wilson (301-892-6148), and pet first aid and CPR demonstrations conducted by Carla Owen of the American Red Cross www.alexandriaredcross.org.

Connection

Book Signing

We launched our book tour at the Lake Anne Used Book Store on February 28, 2001. Victoria, the store owner, made special cookies in the shape of dogs for the guests. The Connector Newspapers came-here we are in the photo with Elysa Coles who is a great photographer.

WDCA-20 (UPN)
WDCA-20 (UPN) television personality and host of the popular Sunday morning program, Making a Difference, Leisa Weir invited Tiki and Tiger (and their human companion, Cynthia Warger) to appear on the January 28th edition. Topics covered how Tiki and Tiger inspired their ghostwriter to craft the stories in Life Through Tiki's Eyes and how it felt to be a canine author like Millie, who lived at the White House with the first President Bush.

Fairfax Business Focus

Fairfax Business Focus

With their new business venture, first-time authors Tiki and Tiger (and their human companion, Cynthia Warger) were invited to appear on the Comcast cable program, Fairfax Business Focus, with host Ann Rodriguez. Ann shared how moved she was by the book.

Santa Paws

Dateline Reston

On December 7, 2000, Tiki and Tiger co-hosted the Comcast cable program, Dateline Reston. In addition to announcing their book and interviewing their designer-Beth Anna McGuire of Beth Anna Designs-they welcomed Santa Paws to the Reston Town Center. Many of their friends came out for the event including Bogie and Trouble. The two celebs were captured on a Voice of America documentary while filling Santa's ear with stories of being "perfect little angels" all year.

Reston Observer
Interview with the Press

Tiki and Tiger's first press interview occurred with Liz Crotty of the Reston-Herndon-Loudon Observer Newspapers. Liz did a beautiful story, "The Simple Pleasures of a Dog's Life," which appeared in the January 26, 2001 edition of all three papers.

Times Community Newspapers
More Press

Tiki and Tiger's next interview was with the Times Community Newspapers. Reporter Leah Friedman and photographer Shamus Fatzinger spent a sunny morning in February interviewing the two. They appeared in the February 9, 2001 edition of the Reston Times.
